This is one of the only Pre-College PT Academies in the United States that offers college credit and an immersive residential experience at a leading university.
The Rutgers University Physical Therapy Pre-College Academy is a one-week, in-person residential program designed for high school students interested in exploring a career in physical therapy. Participants will gain valuable insights into the field through academic workshops, lectures, and hands-on experiences. The curriculum includes tours of Functional Human Anatomy and Exercise Physiology Labs, as well as visits to the Rutgers DPT Graduate Program Campuses. Students will receive advice from academic advisors and professionals, learn about career opportunities, and get an overview of undergraduate coursework relevant to physical therapy. This program also offers 1.5 college credits through the course 01:377:144 Foundations of Kinesiology and Health, and a Rutgers Pre-College Digital Badge credential upon completion.
A typical day includes breakfast, welcome orientation or exercise class, guest speaker lectures from physical therapists, field trips to the Rutgers–Newark DPT Graduate Program, and hands-on experiences in the Human Cadaver Lab. Evenings feature supervised student life activities like movie nights or arts and crafts.
This program is best for high school students completing their sophomore or junior year, aged 16 to 18, who are considering a career in physical therapy and want to gain early exposure to the field and college life.
