About this camp

The TCNJ Game Design Camp offers high school students an immersive, hands-on experience in video game creation. Participants will delve into game design fundamentals, learning to focus their ideas, implement programming techniques, and refine their games through play-based methods. The curriculum emphasizes using creative coding tools to design, program, and iterate on at least one small video game. Students will gain practical skills in game mechanics, coding, and digital art, culminating in tangible projects like custom board game pieces, 3D character printouts, and interactive game files. The camp fosters teamwork, communication, and problem-solving as students collaborate on projects and work through challenges. All skill levels are welcome, providing a supportive environment for aspiring designers, innovators, and music producers to explore their interests and develop twenty-first-century skills.

What a typical day looks like

A typical day includes class sessions in an Art and Interactive Multimedia (AIMM) classroom/lab with faculty and counselors from 9 am to 3 pm, with a lunch break from 12-1 pm. Optional lab/creative/recreation time is available from 3-5 pm.

This camp is ideal for high school students (rising ninth graders to graduating seniors) with an interest in game design, graphic design, digital fabrication, or music technology, regardless of prior experience.
